The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended the appointment of Justice Augustine George Masih of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
The vacancy arose as a result of Justice Pankaj Mithal’s elevation from the Rajasthan High Court to the Supreme Court.
It is to be worth noted that Justice Masih is the senior most puisne judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, having been appointed on July 10, 2008.
According to the Collegium resolution, the Punjab and Haryana Court currently lacks representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts.
It decided to recommend the appointment after consultee judges from the Supreme Court seconded the proposal.
“He [Justice Masih] has acquired experience of dispensing justice in a High Court having jurisdiction over two States,” the resolution stated.
