SC Collegium Recommends Appointment Of Six AJs As Permanent Judges Of Punjab & Haryana HC

The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended six Punjab and Haryana High Court Additional Judges for appointment as Permanent Judges.

The bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K.M. Joseph made the recommendation of the following name; Justice Vikas Bahl, Justice Vikas Suri, Justice Sandeep Moudgil, Justice Vinod Sharma (Bhardwaj), Justice Pankaj Jain and Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi.

The Collegium of the Punjab and Haryana High Court unanimously recommended the additional judges for appointment as Permanent Judges on December 19, 2022. The recommendation was supported by the Chief Ministers and Governors of Punjab and Haryana.

The Collegium also consulted Apex Court Judges who are familiar with the operations of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in order to determine the Judges’ suitability for appointment as Permanent Judges.

The Collegium also examined the materials on file, including the observations made by the Department of Justice and the complaints, and determined that the judges were fit and suitable for appointment as Permanent Judges.

“Since the current two-year term of one of the Additional Judge is due to expire on 24 May 2023, the above recommendation may be processed expeditiously,” it stated.
