The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended the elevation of three judicial officers as Delhi High Court judges.
Girish Kathpalia, Dharmesh Sharma, and Manoj Jain are the three judicial officers who have been recommended.
On December 22, 2022, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court recommended the elevation of Judicial Officers as High Court Judges in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.
On April 7,2023, the Supreme Court received the file from the Department of Justice.
Judges of the Supreme Court familiar with the activities of the High Court of Delhi were consulted to determine the fitness and suitability of the three judicial officials for elevation to the High Court.
“For the purpose of assessing the merit and suitability of the above-named Judicial Officers for elevation to the High Court of Delhi, we have scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record including the observations made by the Department of Justice and certain complaints / representations placed before us,” the notification stated.
As of currently, the Delhi High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 60 justices, was operating with 45 judges, leaving 15 vacancies.
