SC Collegium Recommends Gauhati HC Additional Judge Justice Phukan To Be Made Permanent

Gauhati HC

The Supreme Court Collegium recently recommended the appointment of Justice Robin Phukan, an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court, as a permanent judge.

According to the Collegium resolution, the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and two other senior most judges recommended on March 23 that Justice Phukan be made permanent.

The Supreme Court Collegium received the file from the Department of Justice with its inputs in April, and the Chief Ministers of Assam, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as the Governors of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, agreed with the recommendation.

Notably, the resolution quoted at length the Judgment Evaluation Committee’s report, which stated that the judge’s judgments are well articulated and well structured, have issues answered with reasoning, duly consider all case laws and material, follow appreciation of circumstantial evidence and sentencing, are clear, lucid, and have clarity.

Taking into account the foregoing, the Collegium recommended that Justice Phukan be appointed as a permanent judge.
