The Supreme Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought directions to quash all provisions in the Constitution that do not use gender-neutral terms.
The bench, comprised of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha, advised the petitioner, a law student named Harsh Gupta, to focus on his studies instead of filing such petitions.
The Court expressed its view that the petitioner should prioritize studying in law schools rather than filing PILs. It also stated that imposing costs may be necessary in such cases. The bench highlighted that provisions in the Constitution should not be struck down simply because they are not gender-neutral, as women can also be appointed to various posts.
In light of these considerations, the Court dismissed the plea filed by law student Harsh Gupta
