The Supreme Court of India’s E-committee held a two-day Digital Accessibility Training for visually challenged court workers from District and Taluk courts on May 15 and 16 at IIPA in New Delhi.
Making the Indian legal system’s digital infrastructure more accessible to people with disabilities is one of the fundamental components of the Supreme Court of India’s e-Committee, which is executed under the guidance of Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud.
The two-day training was conducted using a hands-on training model, with each participant receiving a laptop equipped with accessible software such as NVDA, Jaws, and others.
The NIVH and NAB special educators received handholding training in the use of various assistive technologies, such as accessible reading of court documents, accessible documentation and note-taking in a digital work environment; creating Digital Accessible format; using Internet and judgement searching through the eSCR portal, judgement search portal using screenreaders; smartphone-based assistive technologies, and input in regional languages.
In the third batch of the digital accessibility training programme, court staff working in the District and Taluk Courts from Delhi, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Madras, Punjab & Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Telangana were trained.
S. N. Tripathi, Director General of IIPA, distributed certificates to the participants for successfully completing the training programme.
R Arulmozhiselvi, e-Committee Member (HR), coordinated the programme with Dr Surabhi Pandey, IIPA, and was aided by special educators Rajender Singh Negi from NIEPVD and Inderpreet Singh (NAB).
