Mafia Mukhtar Ansari got interim relief from the Supreme Court on Monday. The Top Court has put an interim stay on the order of the Allahabad High Court, which sentenced him for seven years in jail. A bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government while hearing Mukhtar’s petition.
In 2003, the then Jailor SK Awasthi lodged an FIR against Mukhtar in Alambagh police station. According to which, he was threatened with death for ordering searches of the people who came to meet Mukhtar Ansari in the jail. Not only this, Mukhtar had also pointed a pistol at him while abusing him. In this case, the lower court had acquitted Mukhtar, against which the UP government had filed an appeal in the High Court.
