The Supreme Court will hear the petition of the Google Company against the fine imposed on Google by the Competition Company of India (CCI) today at 11.30 am.
The tech giant Google’s challenging Competition Commission of India’s decision to impose Rs 1,338 crore penalty finding its practices relating to Android mobile devices unfair and anti-competitive.
Google sought stay of an interim order of NCLAT, which asked it to deposit 10% of penalty amount by January 19 and refusing to stay CCI penalty.
Earlier the top court had asked the tech giant if it would be ready to practise the same regime in India as it has in Europe. “Please reflect on this and come back”, the bench added
The Competition Company of India had on October 20 imposed a penalty of ₹1,337 crore (about $ 161 million) besides issuing ten non-monetary directions (remedial directions) against Google that, among other things, required it to change its business model entirely.
