Security Removal of Women wrestlers a “Miscommunication”, Delhi Police Informs Court

Wrestlers Security

The Delhi Police informed Rouse Avenue court on Friday that it had rectified the earlier “miscommunication” regarding the withdrawal of security for the women wrestlers set to testify against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot had previously directed the city police to submit a detailed report by Friday, explaining the reasons for the withdrawal of security cover for one of the women wrestlers scheduled to testify against Singh.

In response, Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava clarified that the removal of the wrestlers’ security was due to a “miscommunication.”

On (August 22), the court issued an interim order directing the city police to immediately reinstate the security for the female wrestler who has accused Singh of sexual harassment.

However, on Thursday evening, top wrestler Vinesh Phogat alleged on X that the police had withdrawn the security for the women wrestlers who are set to testify against Singh in the case.

“Delhi Police has withdrawn the security of the women wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan in court,” Phogat stated in a post on the microblogging platform, tagging the Delhi Police, the National Commission for Women (NCW), and the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).
