Sexual Abuse Case: Bengaluru Court Extends Judicial Custody of Prajwal Revanna till July 8

A Bengaluru court has extended the judicial custody of former MP Prajwal Revanna, arrested on charges of rape and sexual abuse against multiple women, till July 8, 2024.

His custody under the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the cases, ended on June 24.

He was produced before the magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody until July 8.

Meanwhile, Revanna’s bail application was heard by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, with the court reserving its orders for June 26.

Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda. Revanna had recently failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency.

On 31st May, SIT officials arrested Revanna soon after he landed at Bengaluru Airport from Germany. He had departed for Germany on April 27, a day after the Hassan Lok Sabha polls.

Prior to his arrest, a ‘Blue Corner Notice‘ was issued by Interpol, seeking information on his whereabouts, following a request by the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A Special Court for Elected Representatives had issued an arrest warrant against Revanna on May 18, following an application by the SIT. Prajwal Revanna faces charges in three cases of sexual assault, including rape. The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on April 26.
