SP Leader Azam Khan's School To Be Open, Seal Have To Be Removed, UP Govt Tells Allahabad HC

The Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday submitted before the Allahabad High Court that it will open the classrooms of the Rampur Public School (sealed by the State Government on Tuesday) managed by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s Jauhar Trust for internal examinations of students.

The submission was made before a bench of Justice Surya Prakash Kesarwani and Justice Anish Kumar Gupta on a plea submitted by the executive committee of the Jauhar Trust, inter alia, contesting the State Government’s decision to seal the school premises.

The state government sealed the premises on Tuesday after the trust failed to vacate the land after being served with repeated notices informing it of the cancellation of the 99-years lease.

It should be noted that the government building of the Jauhar Research Institute was granted to the Trust on an annual lease of Rs 100 under the said lease during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure in the state.

Meanwhile, the Jauhar Trust filed an interim relief petition before the High Court on Thursday, seeking that the school grounds not be disturbed till the completion of the current internal assessment of students from Class 1 to 9 and Class 11.

In light of this, the Additional Advocate General Ajit Kumar Singh submitted, while seeking an adjournment in the matter until March 21 due to the absence of the Advocate General, that the classrooms required for the examination be opened and that no interference in the classrooms be caused by the State-respondents during the conduct of the examination.

In light of the Additional Advocate General’s stand, the Court stated that no further order was required at this stage, and thus, the Court directed the State-respondents to abide by the statement made by the Additional Advocate General, and the matter was scheduled for further hearing on March 21.
