Spanish Tourist Gang Rape: 3 Arrested Accused Remanded to Judicial Custody

Spanish Tourist Gang Rape

Three individuals apprehended in connection with the gang rape of a Spanish tourist in Jharkhand’s Dumka district were recently remanded to judicial custody by a court there.

The woman from Spain purportedly fell victim to gang rape on Friday at Kurumahat in the Hansdiha police station area, approximately 300 km from the state capital Ranchi, where she and her husband were spending the night in a tent, as per police reports.

Her statement has been recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC, they indicated.

During a press conference, Superintendent of Police Pitamber Singh Kherwar disclosed that a medical examination was conducted on the woman, confirming the occurrence of rape.

He mentioned that among the seven individuals allegedly implicated in the crime, three have been incarcerated while efforts to apprehend the remaining four are underway.

Kherwar further stated that the police are in communication with the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi. “They are being kept informed about the developments,” he added.

Responding to queries regarding the departure of the couple from Jharkhand, the SP stated, “Legal procedures are underway. We will update you on this matter later.”

The woman, aged around 28, and her 64-year-old husband arrived in Dumka from Bangladesh on two motorcycles and were en route to Nepal via Bihar.

Mamta Kumari, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), also met with the survivor.

Labeling the incident as unfortunate, she emphasized that it exposed the law-and-order situation in Jharkhand.

“All the accused involved in the crime should be apprehended at the earliest, and stringent action should be ensured,” she asserted.
