A special court in Kerala recently sentenced a 55-year-old man life imprisonment for sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl.
K Soman, a special court judge, sentenced Kollam resident Anil Kumar, who worked as a security guard at a private apartment complex, for sexually abusing a minor girl who lived there in 2019.
The court found him guilty of violating Sections 363, 354(1)(i), 354A(2), and 376AB of the Indian Penal Code, as well as other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“For the offence under Section 376AB of the Indian Penal Code, the convict is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life, which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life, and pay a fine of 50,000,” the bench ordered.
Section 376 AB of the IPC addresses the punishment for rape on a woman under the age of twelve.
The convict was also fined Rs 1.20 lakh by the court under various sections.
“A security guard who was supposed to ensure the safety and security of the inmates in the flat was found guilty of rape and aggravating penetrative sexual assault on an 8-year-old girl who lived in the flat.” As a result, the accused does not deserve any leniency, and an appropriate sentence must be imposed on him,” the bench directed.
According to the prosecution, the accused abused the child in the kitchen area of the security cabin with sexual intent.
