Srinagar Court: Gujarati Man Sentenced To 15-Days In Judicial Custody Accused Of Pretending To Be PMO Official In J&K

A Srinagar court on Friday ordered a Gujarati man to judicial custody for 14 days, alleging that he had impersonated himself as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official.

The order was passed by the 1st Additional Munsiff of Srinagar during a video conference hearing.

Kiran Patel, the accused, was arrested from a five-star hotel after posing as an additional secretary with the Government of India.

A senior police officer informed LegallySpeakings that the fake visiting cards and two mobile phones were seized from the accused.

He was charged with violating IPC Sections 419 (punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record).

According to the sources, Patel visited and stayed in Kashmir and travelled to several tourist destinations while under “Z plus” protection. He even went to a location close to the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir’s Uri district of Baramullah.

Patel has also filed a bail plea, which is pending before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Srinagar.
