The Supreme Court has said on wednesday in an ordered that no strict steps will be taken in compliance of the Bombay High Court (Nagpur Bench) order which prohibited the feeding of stray dogs in public. But the Supreme Court also emphasized that dog lovers can feed stray dogs only at places that will be identified by the municipal authority.
The Mumbai High Court (Nagpur Bench) had said in his order that, If so called friends of stray dogs are really interested in protection and they must adopt the stray dogs, take home the stray dogs or at least put them up in some good dog shelter homes and bear all the expenses for their registration with Municipal Authorities and towards their maintenance, health and vaccination”.
A group of dog lovers filed a petition before supreme court seeking stay on Mumbai High Court order. A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and JK Maheshwari stayed the certain observations of Mumbai High Court’s orders and directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to demark appropriate locations so that general public may feed the stray dogs at those locations only. But Supreme Court insisted that people must have stop to create public nuisance by feeding street dogs.

The Petitioners counsel pleaded that Mumbai high court orders re not only adversely affect the rights of street dogs, care-givers but are also contrary to both statutory provisions as well as the orders of the Supreme Court.
