Student Slapping Case: SC Seeks Investigation Report from Muzaffarnagar SP

UP Student Slapping Case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police (SP) to provide a status report on the investigation into the case where a student was allegedly slapped by his classmates on the orders of his teacher.

A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Pankaj Mithal directed the SP to update the court on the actions taken to safeguard the student and his parents.

Furthermore, the apex court issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, seeking a response by September 25th, 2023.

This development transpired during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. The PIL sought a prompt investigation into the incident of a student being slapped.

The Muzaffarnagar Police had registered a case against the teacher involved, accusing her of making communal statements and instructing her students to slap a Muslim classmate who had not completed his homework. Additionally, the state education department served a notice to the school in connection with this matter.

The teacher in question, Tripta Tyagi, faced charges a day after a video surfaced showing her instructing her students to slap a Class 2 student in Khubbapur village, accompanied by a communal comment.
