SUPREME COURT COLLEGIUM CLEARS 13 NAMES FOR ELEVATION AS JUDGES TO PUNJAB & HARYANA HIGH COURT

In March, this year the Collegium of the Punjab and Haryana High Court., the bench comprising of the Chief Justice and two other Senior Judges, had recommended to clear 13 advocates names for elevation as Judges.

Total 35 names are recommended by the Collegium to Centre for appointment as judges in sex High Courts.

on Monday, the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana approved and recommended to the Centre the proposal for the elevation of 20 advocates and 15 judicial officers as judges in six high courts, in a significant step to fill vacancies in the higher judiciary.

The Collegium comprising of Justices Uday Umesh Lalit and AM Khanwilkar, approved the proposal for the elevation of a maximum of 13 advocates as judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court following by the elevation of six advocates for the Telangana High Court.

At present, the High Court has 46 judges against the sanctioned strength of 85. As of December 23, as many as 18 are set to be retired.

Following are the name of the Advocates whose proposal for elevation has been approved:

1. Ms. Nidhi Gupta,

2. Shri Sanjay Vashisth,

3. Shri Tribhuvan Dahiya,

4. Shri Namit Kumar,

5. Shri Harkesh Manuja,

6. Shri Aman Chaudhary,

7. Naresh Singh @ Naresh Singh Shekhawat,

8. Shri Harsh Bunger,

9. Shri Jagmohan Bansal,

10. Shri Deepak Manchanda,

11. Alok Jain @ Alok Kumar Jain,

12. Shri Harpreet Singh Brar, and

13. Shri Kuldeep Tiwari.

Harsh Bunger, Alok Kumar Jain, Sanjay Vashisth, Tribhuvan Dahiya, Namit Kumar, Harkesh Manuja, Aman Chaudhary and taxation lawyer Jagmohan Bansal, are also on the list. In March 2022, the 13 names were recommended by the high court collegium.

The Central government as per the prescribed considers these names and the President issues the notification for those cleared by the Centre. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the pending cases in the high court have piled up to 4.5 lakh.

The CJI-led collegium on July 20 approved the proposal for the elevation of 21 Judicial Officers as Judges in the different High Courts.
