The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on a plea seeking directions to the Election Commission and the government to conduct early assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra, noted that petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 are scheduled for hearing on July 11.

The bench stated, “We will adjourn this. The 370 matter is listed for directions on July 11.” The counsel representing the petitioners argued that this case is distinct as the residents have been disenfranchised, and they urged the apex court to issue notice in the matter. However, the bench declined to issue notice and adjourned the proceedings.

The petition was filed by National Panthers Party leaders (JKNPP), Manju Singh, and Harsh Dev Singh, seeking directions from the Election Commission of India to conduct elections in the union territory without further delay.
