The e-committee of Supreme Court of India’s has been awarded the National Award for institutions engaged in empowering persons with disabilities, 2021. The R Arulmozhiselvi, Member (human resources) received the award from the president on behalf of the e-committee.
However, the patron-in-chief and the Chairperson for the e-committee is Chief Justice of India Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud.
It has strongly been encouraged by the CJI Chandrachud that all the High Courts of India to make their digital infrastructure accessible to persons with disabilities. As per the CJI, making of the sdigital infrastructure accessible to persons with disabilities is a statutory and constitutional duty. In conformity with the same, it has been suggested by him a series of structural interventions for all High Courts of India.
The Supreme Court of India’s e-committee has strived to make the digital infrastructure of the Indian Judicial system more accessible to persons with disabilities which has been a core component of the e-committee’s work.
The measure which are taken for making digital infrastructure accessible is a significant step in enabling legal professionals with disabilities to participate in the profession on the same footing as their able-bodied counterparts and it is a way forward in creating an accessible and the inclusive legal system.
