The Supreme Court of India has granted interim protection from arrest till Monday, to Bikram Singh Majithia, who represents the Shiromani Akali Dal – and is the brother in law of Sukhbir Badal ex deputy Chief minister of Punjab.
The case on behalf of Bikram Singh Majithia was argued by Mr. Mukul Rohatgi, Snr. Adv. and R.S. Cheema, Snr. Adv., assisted by D.S. Sobti, Arshdeep Singh Cheema, Nikhil Rohatgi and Misha Rohatgi Mohta, Advocates and a team from Karanjawala & Co. led by Advocate Nandini Gore,(Senior partner) and Sandeep Kapur (Senior partner) , Advocate and comprising Virinder Sandhu, Sonia Nigam, Tahira Karanjawala, Apoorva Pandey, Aashneet Singh Anand, Neha Khandelwal, Arjun Sharma, Abhimanshu Dhyani and Sahil Modi advocates.
Mukul Rohatgi, Senior Advocate argued that the present case is blatantly political in nature and has been registered in furtherance of the upcoming elections, with the malafide objective to target Bikram Singh Majithia who is a mainstream leader of the opposition party. He was granted three day interim protection from arrest by the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
P Chidambram, Snr. Adv. appeared on behalf of the State of Punjab. The Chief Justice of India, after hearing the arguments , directed the state to not take any coercive action against Bikram Singh Majethia, till the listing of the petition on Monday.The next date of hearing in the case is 31.01.2022.
