On the foundation day of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud on Saturday spoke on the budget provision for judiciary in the current budget which is in this year’s budget. The government has made a provision of 7000 crores for the electronic court which will benefit the infrastructure of the judiciary.
CJI also stated that no case is small for us. Singapore Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon further stated that the Supreme Court of India is the busiest court in the world. Menon also praised the judges of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud further added that in the last 3 months, more than 12 thousand cases were filed there in the Supreme Court and almost as many cases were disposed off.
The CJI said that video conference was used for hearing cases during the deadly period Corona. About 3.50 lakh cases were heard during the advantage of video conferencing.
The CJI further added that there are similarities between some laws of Singapore, Canada & our law.
The CJI said that the 1st hearing of the Supreme Court took place on 28 January 1950 in a room of Parliament. At that time there were 8 posts of judges in the Supreme Court whereas the Supreme Court started with 6 judges including Chief Justice Hari Lal J Kania. The same decision was taken in 1954 to build the building of Supreme Court. The Supreme Court heard many important issues including fundamental rights in 1 year of its inception. The Supreme Court was held outside Delhi twice in 1950 in Hyderabad, in 1954 in Kashmir.
A total of 30-60 cases are mentioned in the Supreme Court before the bench of the Chief Justice which will helps us to understand the pulse of the country.
