Supreme Court To Hear Pleas Challenging Electoral Bond Scheme On Last Week Of Jan

Electoral Bond Scheme

The Supreme court on Thursday said it will hear in the January last week the batch of petition challenging the Electoral Bond Scheme for election funding.

During the hearing the Central Government has defended the scheme during the hearing on the petition and said that it is a transparent scheme.

The Supreme court was hearing a petition filed by Political party CPI(M) and advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, along with others saying that the sources of donations received by political parties through electoral bonds are not known and this is harmful for democracy.

Electoral bonds have been pitched as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties as part of efforts to bring transparency in political funding.

The government had notified the Electoral Bond Scheme on January 2, 2018.
