Telangana HC Directs CBI Not To Arrest Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy Till May 31 Final Orders

The Telangana High Court has recently ordered CBI not to arrest the YSR Congress Party leader in connection with the murder of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy till the final orders in the petition are passed.

The vacation bench heard a petition filed by the MP seeking anticipatory bail posted in the case to May 31 for the final orders.

Following the directions of the Supreme Court, the high court took up the hearing of the petition on Friday. The court heard the arguments of Suneetha, daughter of Vivekananda Reddy, and Avinash Reddy.

Avinash, who had earlier been summoned by the CBI to appear here on May 22, filed a letter to the federal agency requesting time before it to appear, due to his mother’s illness.

Avinash Reddy who is the cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is under the scanner of the CBI in connection with Vivekananda Reddy’s murder that took place in March 2019.

He appeared before the CBI at least 5 times this year. Subsequently, he moved the Telangana High Court with the anticipatory bail petition.

On April 16, his father YS Bhaskar Reddy got arrested by the CBI in connection with the case.

On April 28, the Telangana High Court posted the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Avinash Reddy to June 5. He then went to the Supreme Court which directed the vacation bench of the high court to hear the case.

Vivekananda Reddy, one of the brothers of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s brothers, had been found murdered at his home in Pulivendula in Kadapa district on the night of March 15, 2019, only weeks before the State Assembly elections.

Therefore, the case was initially probed by a SIT of the state crime investigation department, but was handed over to the CBI in July 2020.
