A man in Maharashtra’s Thane district has been sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing a 32-year-old woman when she resisted a rape attempt.
Additional sessions judge Abhay N Sirsikar found the accused, Babu alias Sameer Gopal Gogawale (29), guilty of charges under sections 452 (house trespass), 302 (murder), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000.
Additional public prosecutor Rashmi Kshirsagar apprised the court that Lata, also known as Rakhi Rahul Shejwal, dwelt with her husband and two sons in the Kopri vicinity of Thane city. On October 2, 2016, while the victim’s husband and progeny were absent, the accused intruded their abode, endeavored to perpetrate a sexual assault upon her, and lethally stabbed her upon encountering resistance to his advances, the prosecutor elucidated.
