Thane district court in Maharashtra sentenced a Nepalese national to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for the death of his friend who succumbed to injuries following an attack.

Additional sessions judge P M Gupta found Gopi Sete Dholi guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and handed down a seven-year prison sentence. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused.

On August 4, 2020, Dholi discovered that his mobile phone was missing and suspected Thapa of stealing it. In an inebriated state, he later attacked the victim, causing injuries that ultimately led to his death in a hospital.
