The Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju stated, as he weighed in on the debate, at an event of the Delhi Bar Association that the people are watching you and judging you. Thus, your judgments, your work process, how you dispense justice. The same can be seen by people and assess. The people form opinions. It has been stated by Mr Rijiju that the Chief Justice had sought his help about the abuse judges face on social media, also adding that in the age of social media and the people are now having the power to speak. Adding to it, he stated that it not being the old days, when there was no platform and only netalog (political leaders) could speak.’ It has been observed by Mr Rijiju, while looking at the dark side of the social media, ‘How to control that? Now, judges cannot respond to it o social media. Therefore, the government was requested to take a firm step… I have taken note of it and have the solution.’ Mr Rijiju stated that since 1947, there have been many changes government was requested to take a firm step… I have taken note of it and have the solution.’ It being the changing situation which dictates the need and this is why the Constitution had to be amended more than a hundred times, he said. Therefore, Mr Rijiju has been vocal about the lack of transparency in the current Collegium system of appointment – where the names are picked by the panel of the country’s top judges from the Supreme Court.
