UP Court Issues Notice To Rahul Gandhi After Complaint Alleges His Words ‘Hurt Sentiments’

A local court in Sambhal has issued a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, requiring him to either respond or appear on April 4, 2025, in relation to a complaint filed against his alleged statement.

The notice was issued by Additional District Judge (ADJ) II, Nirbhay Narayan Singh, following a petition submitted by Simran Gupta, the national president of the Hindu Shakti Dal.

Complaint & Court Proceedings

Advocate Sachin Goyal, representing Gupta, confirmed that the court has accepted the complaint and directed Gandhi to either present himself in court on the specified date or submit a formal response. This legal action stems from a controversial remark made by Gandhi during the inauguration of the Delhi Congress office on January 15, 2025.

Controversial Statement

Gupta has taken issue with Gandhi’s statement during the event, where he said, “Our fight is not against BJP or RSS, but against the Indian state.” According to Gupta, this comment has deeply hurt the sentiments of the public, particularly among those who feel it undermines national institutions and promotes divisiveness.

Initial Complaints & Court Filing

Before taking legal action, Gupta first lodged complaints with the Sambhal district magistrate and superintendent of police, seeking action against the Congress leader. However, after not receiving a response from these authorities, Gupta approached the court on January 23, 2025, filing the petition that led to the current legal proceedings.

The court’s decision to issue a notice to Rahul Gandhi sets the stage for further legal scrutiny of the case. As the date for his appearance approaches, the controversy surrounding the statement is likely to remain a point of public discussion and political debate.
