A local court in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday has sentenced 4 individuals to 25 years in prison for the gang rape of a Dalit teenager, which occurred approximately 2½ years ago.

Special Public Prosecutors Ashok Kumar Singh and Sunil Kumar Mishra provided details of the case, stating that a Dalit woman filed a complaint on February 10, 2022. According to the complaint, her daughter was confronted by the accused, Raja, while returning home from school. Raja, along with his three accomplices—Rizwan, Ijrael, and Mahfooz—took her to a deserted location where they raped her.

Additional District Judge (POCSO) Rajesh Narayan Mani Tripathi, after reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both the defense and the prosecution, found all the accused guilty. Each was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two-year prison term, as stated by the special public prosecutors.
