UP’s Shravasti court has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for raping his minor stepdaughter in 2019.
Additional District Judge (POCSO) Nirdosh Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on the convict. If the fine is not paid, the man will face an additional six months of imprisonment, as per the judge’s order, according to Shravasti District Government Advocate K P Singh.
The court has directed that the entire fine amount be given to the victim. The case came to light when the girl, residing in a protection home, wrote to the Shravasti superintendent of police in June 2021. She revealed that two years earlier, at the age of 15, she had been raped by her stepfather and subsequently left home.
The Bihar Police located her in Nawada and placed her in a protection home in Bodh Gaya. She was later transferred to the Child Welfare Committee in Shravasti and subsequently placed in a local protection home.
Following the orders of the then superintendent of police, an FIR was lodged against the accused on June 3, 2021. The man was charged with rape and violations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
