UP Court To Hear ‘Controversial’ Remarks Case Against Rahul Gandhi On Sep 26

A local court in Uttar Pradesh on Monday adjourned the hearing on a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remark that his party was “fighting the Indian state itself,” setting September 26 as the next date.

Additional District Judge (ADJ-II) Aarti Faujdar deferred the matter after noting that records from a subordinate court were not available. Gandhi’s counsel Sagir Saifi confirmed the adjournment.

The complaint, filed by Simran Gupta of the Hindu Shakti Dal, pertains to Gandhi’s statement made during the inauguration of the Congress headquarters in New Delhi on January 15. Gandhi had reportedly said, “We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian state itself,” while alleging that the ruling party had captured all institutions.

Gupta’s plea alleges the remark insulted citizens and democracy, claiming it hurt sentiments nationwide. “I had approached the district magistrate and the SP in Sambhal earlier, but no action was taken. So, I moved the court on January 23,” Gupta said.

The court will now take up the matter on September 26.
