VD Savarkar's Grandson Files Criminal Defamation Suit Against Rahul Gandhi

The grandson of late V D Savarkar filed a criminal defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently, accusing him of levelling false claims against Savarkar during his speech in London.

Satyaki Savarkar, the grandson, claimed his lawyers filed a lawsuit in Maharashtra Court under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“Because the relevant court officer was absent today, they asked us to return on Saturday to obtain the case number. We have not yet received the case number, but we will on Saturday,” Satyaki Savarkar stated.

In terms of the complaint’s content, Satyaki Savarkar stated that Rahul Gandhi brought up Savarkar’s issue during his interaction with the Indian diaspora in London.

“Rahul Gandhi told the crowd that V D Savarkar had written a book in which he stated that he and his five to six friends were beating a Muslim man and he (Savarkar) was happy.”

“Rahul Gandhi, while speaking about this incident, asked if it was not a cowardly act. First of all, this incident, as narrated by Gandhi, is a fictional one. No such incident had taken place in the life of Savarkar who was a man of scientific temperament. He believed in democracy and had advised Muslims to adopt a scientific approach,” Satyaki Savarkar stated.
He further added that Rahul Gandhi’s remarks regarding V D Savarkar were untrue, spiteful, and intended to insult him.

“After his attempt to defame Savarkar, we decided not to remain silent and filed a criminal defamation case against Rahul Gandhi under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC,” he stated.

“V D Savarkar had not written such things in any book. Let this thing come up in court as to which book Rahul Gandhi read this incident,” Satyaki Savarkar stated.

He claimed that a video of Rahul Gandhi making these remarks during the encounter is available and that it will be submitted in court.
