Ex-MLA Alka Lamba
The Rouse Avenue court on Saturday granted bail to former MLA Alka Lamba, who is facing charges in a case related to the alleged violation of prohibitory orders during a protest at Jantar Mantar.
The case stems from a 2024 protest at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators demanded the implementation of women’s reservation ahead of the General Elections. An FIR was registered against Lamba at Parliament Street Police Station for allegedly defying prohibitory orders.
The court had earlier taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed against her and issued a summons. However, after Lamba failed to appear and sought exemption on two occasions, the court issued a bailable warrant on September 24.
Pursuant to this warrant, Lamba appeared before the court on Saturday.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasia granted bail to Lamba and directed the prosecution to provide her with a copy of the charge sheet. The matter has now been listed for hearing arguments on charges on October 15.
Lamba is accused of violating prohibitory orders imposed in the national capital during the Jantar Mantar protest. The alleged violation is at the core of the case being pursued by the prosecution.
