Vivekananda Reddy Murder: YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy Turns Witness, Appears before CBI

Vivekananda Reddy

YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha MP Avinash Reddy from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, turns witness and appeared before CBI officials on Saturday in connection with the 2019 murder case of Vivekananda Reddy. Vivekananda Reddy was Rajasekhara Reddy’s younger brother and YSRCP’s founder Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle.

The probe agency had originally scheduled a summons for him for January 24, but the MP requested extra time, so the CBI changed the date to January 28.

On October 26, 2021, the CBI filed a charge sheet in the murder case, which was followed by a supplementary charge sheet on January 31, 2022.

On the night of March 15, 2019, Vivekananda Reddy was found murdered at his home in Pulivendula, the constituency now represented by his nephew, just weeks before the State assembly elections.

The high-profile murder trial of Vivekananda Reddy was moved to a Telangana special court in November after the Supreme Court took note of allegations made by the deceased’s widow and daughter that influential people were attempting to scuttle the trial in his native state.
