Deletion of Voters Name: SC Issues Notice to Andhra & Telangana Election Commission

Andhra Voterlist

The Supreme Court on Wednesday has issued a notice to the State Election Commission and the State Governments on a petition filed by Srinivas Kodali against deletion of names of lakhs of citizens from the voter list in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

This is an important issue, we will listen to it and find a solution, CJI DY Chandrachud said

The Petitioner has alleged that the Election Commission is responsible for the registration and profiling of voters, as this work and jurisdiction is with it.

The Election Commission provides access to state governments of that software, so that they can print copies of the voter list, the plea said

The commission has also formed a team to monitor this, but still political parties target voters according to their profile and their interests. A tool is being made to keep them away from the election process, the plea added

According to the petition, 27 lakh names have been removed from the voter list in Telangana and 19 lakh in Andhra Pradesh.
