West Bengal: Kangaroo Court Orders Couple To Leave Village After Allegations Of Women’s Extra-Marital Affair

A Kangaroo Court recently ordered a couple to leave Daukimari village in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal after allegations of women’s extra-marital affair.

Recently, the village panchayat, which is headed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), decided that the couple should leave the village and made them sign a stamp paper.

Locals claimed that the husband was in another state for work-related reasons, and that his wife was having an affair while he was gone.

The village panchayat called Kangaroo Court recently after receiving information about the situation and decided that both husband and wife should leave after signing a deed on 10-rupee stamp paper.

Opposition parties have begun to question the TMC’s involvement in permitting Kangaroo Court to dominate the state and have called for quick action.

Mamata Rai, the local TMC panchayat Pradhan, denied any knowledge of the incident and stated that the village panchayat did not consult her on the matter.

The police have yet to receive a complaint on the matter, and the police superintendent has stated that if a complaint is filed, action would be taken.
