Wrestlers Sexual Harassment Case: Victim’s 8-Hour Cross-Examination Concludes

Wrestlers Sexual Harassment Case

The Rouse Avenue court has recently completed the recording of a statement from one of the victim wrestlers, following an intense cross-examination that lasted approximately 8 hours.

This examination was conducted by the legal counsel for former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

For her protection, the victim was brought to the court under tight security and her testimony was recorded in a vulnerable witness room, ensuring a safe environment. The proceedings were overseen by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot, who conducted the cross-examination on Thursday.

The cross-examination commenced around 12:45 PM in the pre-lunch session and resumed at approximately 2:15 PM, extending until about 9 PM. Advocate Rajiv Mohan, representing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was responsible for questioning the victim in this sensitive setting.

The former WFI Chief himself was present during the proceedings, alongside Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Atul Srivastava and the case’s investigation officer.

This hearing is part of an ongoing case that has drawn significant public attention, especially given the serious allegations involved. The court has now scheduled the next session for October 14, during which the statement of another witness, Narender, will be recorded.

The extended duration of the cross-examination reflects the complexity of the case and the gravity of the accusations. Legal experts suggest that such thorough questioning is typical in high-profile cases, especially when the credibility of witness statements can significantly influence the outcome.

As the proceedings continue, the legal community and the public alike are closely monitoring the developments. This case not only involves the individuals directly affected but also raises broader questions about accountability and the treatment of athletes within sports organizations.

Court’s careful handling of the victim’s testimony underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable witnesses in legal proceedings. The next steps in this case will be crucial, as they could potentially impact the future of those involved and shed light on the serious issues within the wrestling community.
