A man residing in Surat has been arrested after brutally stabbing his daughter at least 25 times and injuring his wife after a domestic dispute.
The shocking incident, which occurred on the night of May 18 in Surat’s Kadodara area, has garnered attention as CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media platforms, while investigations into the case are ongoing.
The perpetrator, identified as Ramanuja, resided with his family in a rented apartment in Satya Nagar Society, Surat. According to authorities involved in the investigation, the accused lost his temper during a minor argument with his wife regarding their daughter sleeping on the terrace. The situation rapidly escalated, resulting in an outburst of violence.
The CCTV footage captured the distressing sequence of events. At approximately 11:20 pm, Ramanuja initiated the attack with a knife, targeting his wife in the presence of their children. Although the woman sustained injuries, the children bravely intervened and grappled with the assailant, briefly managing to subdue him. However, Ramanuja retaliated and attempted to harm anyone within his reach.
Amidst the chaos, the accused got hold of his daughter and mercilessly stabbed her multiple times. Desperately trying to escape his grip and save her life, the daughter sought refuge in a nearby room. Unfortunately, the man followed her and continued the stab until she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Even after the brutal attack on his daughter, Ramanuja proceeded to the terrace with the intention of harming his wife. Displaying immense courage, the children intervened in an effort to shield their mother but ended up sustaining injuries themselves during the altercation.
Promptly alerted to the incident, the Surat police swiftly responded and apprehended Ramanuja, subsequently confiscating the murder weapon.
Inspector RK Patel, leading the investigation, confirmed the arrest of the accused and stated that charges have been filed against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder and attempt to murder.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are obtaining statements from the victim and complainant, Rekha, and other involved parties, while the injured individuals receive necessary medical treatment.
