1984 riots: SC Issues Notice to CBI, Seeks Report on Bail Plea of Accused Balwan Khokhar

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the CBI on the bail plea of ​​former Congress councilor Balwan Khokhar, serving life term in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The Supreme Court has asked the CBI to respond to Khokhar’s bail plea in four weeks. Khokhar has said in his bail application that he is 68 years old, he is a senior citizen and has been in jail for many years. He is suffering from several ailments including diabetes, blood pressure and joint pain.

Khokhar and former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar are currently serving life imprisonment after being convicted in a case related to the anti-Sikh riots. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court on December 17, 2018.
