The Supreme Court today dismisses the election petition against the DMK Leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from the Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency.
The bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi & Justice Bela M Trivedi dismissed the election petition filed against Kanimozhi’s election that allowed an appeal filed in this regard by Kanimozhi challenging a Madras High Court’s order declining to cancel the petition for the election.
Senior Advocate P Wilson who appeared for the appellant, submitted lead of election petition, raising a grievance over the non-mention of her husband’s PAN details in her affidavit disclosing assets, had been filed by a voter.
Therefore, it was pointed out that her husband was a foreign national and that didn’t have such a card or any income from activities in India.
Further, the respondents hadn’t justified their allegations.
In January 2020, the apex court ordered a stay on proceedings against Kanimozhi in the case and the order of High Court under challenge.
