The producers of Adipurush filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Allahabad High Court, which required their personal presence before the High Court bench.
The petition was submitted to the apex court on Wednesday, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, directed the lawyer to bring up the matter for mention the following day.
The challenge pertains to the order issued by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on June 30, 2023.
In response to public interest litigation (PIL) petitions seeking a ban on the film, a bench comprising Justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh passed the order.
The division bench criticized the makers of Adipurush for their offensive and indecent portrayal of certain characters in the movie.
Consequently, the film’s director, Om Raut, producer Bhushan Kumar, and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir were directed to personally appear before the Court on July 27, 2023. They were also required to submit personal affidavits clarifying their intentions.
Furthermore, the Court ordered the establishment of an expert committee to review whether Adipurush remains faithful to the Ramayana, which serves as its primary source of inspiration.
