Allahabad HC Issues Notice To The State Govt In Azam Khan’s Transfer Plea

SP leader Azam Khan

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the state government and asked for its response in the matter pertains to the transfer application filed by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh issued the order on a petition filed by the veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, Azam Khan.

In the petition, Khan demanded that six cases against him be heard by a court in another district rather than Rampur.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government filed a counter-affidavit in response to the SP leader’s petition seeking the quashing of a FIR filed in another case against him.

In addition, the court accepted another plea to withdraw the government pleader’s first counter-affidavit.

Previously, in January, the Supreme Court dismissed Azam Khan’s petition to transfer certain cases against him from Uttar Pradesh to another state.

The Supreme Court directed Khan to approach the relevant high court and that his petition be heard as soon as possible.

The SP leader was charged with nearly 90 offences, including hate speech, corruption, and theft.

Khan was declared ineligible to serve in the House by the state Assembly Secretariat earlier in October as a result of a court’s three-year prison term for hate speech.

In April 2019, Khan was charged with making serious allegations against administrative officials in Rampur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during an election meeting.

Azam Khan was arrested during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections for inciting violence during a public speech in the village of Khatanagaria in the Milak Kotwali region.
