Haldwani Railway Station: Petition Filed In The SC For The Removal Of Illegal Encroachment

One More petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding removal of illegal encroachment on railway land near Haldwani railway station in Uttarakhand. Petitioner’s lawyer Prashant Bhushan urged Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice DY Chandrachud on Wednesday for an early hearing on the petition. Justice DY Chandrachud said that he will hear this petition along with other petitions in this matter which are listed for hearing on Thursday.

In case of giving eviction notices to more than 4000 families living in unauthorized colonies The order of the High Court has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Sharafat Khan who lives in this colony has filed this petition. In fact, following an order from the Uttarakhand High Court, the Railways has decided that 7 days time will be given to vacate the house after the notice. More than 4000 encroachers will be removed from 29 acres of railway land in the city.

The railway authorities have already started the process of demolishing the houses and other structures built on the 22 kilometer long railway track. Encroachers have been asked to deposit licensed weapons. Izzat Nagar Railway PRO Rajendra Singh said on Saturday that “About 10 days ago the High Court’s decision came in Haldwani to remove all encroachments on railway land. There are 4365 encroachments and we will give notice through local newspapers and The occupants will be given 7 days time to shift.
