The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas Ansari’s plea challenging the Allahabad High Court’s rejection of his bail application in an arms licence case.
A bench led by Justice BR Gavai adjourned the hearing after Ansari’s counsel requested time to file a rejoinder on the Uttar Pradesh government’s affidavit.
The court has scheduled the matter for a hearing in March.
Ansari has challenged the November 20, 2022, order of the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Bench. The Allahabad High Court declined bail to Abbas Ansari in an arms license case.
The FIR, lodged on October 12, 2019, alleges that Abbas Ansari purchased numerous firearms on the license, presenting himself as a renowned shooter. He claimed to have transferred the license issued in Lucknow to Delhi, but no notification in this regard had been provided to the concerned police station, and the applicant continued to use both licenses issued in two different states on two different UID’s, as per the prosecution.
