“At Least Gods Should Be Kept Away From Politics”: SC On Tirupati Laddus Row

The Supreme Court on Monday has raised critical questions regarding the use of contaminated ghee in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, emphasizing the importance of separating faith from politics.

A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan inquired about the evidence supporting allegations that animal fat was used in the laddus.

During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta underscored the matter’s sensitivity, asserting that the use of contaminated ingredients in religious offerings is unacceptable. The court expressed concern over the necessity of making public statements amid an ongoing investigation.

This legal discourse arises from allegations made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who claimed that animal fat was utilized in the laddus during the tenure of the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

This assertion has sparked a significant political controversy, with the YSR Congress Party accusing Naidu of making baseless claims for political advantage.

The Supreme Court’s inquiry continues as it reviews a series of petitions calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations surrounding the preparation of the Tirupati laddus.
