The Supreme Court will hear today a petition demanding an SIT probe into the death of people due to drinking spurious liquor in Bihar’s Chhapra. The petition, filed by NGO Aryavarta Mahasabha Foundation, has demanded formation of SIT for investigation and proper compensation to the victims.
The petitioner sought a national action plan to control the manufacture, trade and sale of illegal liquor across the country.
Mashrak and Isuapur police station area of Chhapra district of Bihar, more than 30 people have lost their lives due to spurious liquor, in last year december.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had sent its team to investigate the Bihar spurious liquor tragedy with more deaths in other districts. The NHRC in its press statement had said that the commission is concerned to know where and what kind of medical treatment is being provided to these victims.
