The Centre informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it will soon issue a notification regarding the appointment of the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. The Supreme Court was addressing two petitions, one of which raised concerns about delays by the Centre in approving the names recommended by the collegium for the appointment and transfer of judges.
A bench comprised of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia was apprised of the fact that files related to the transfer of 14 high court judges have been cleared, while the remaining 12 are currently in the process.
The collegium of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, had recommended on July 5 the appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul from the Delhi High Court as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.
The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on October 20.
