Following the Supreme Court’s directive, the security at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has been handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
This decision came during the hearing of a suo motu case regarding the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the institution.
In response to the court order, CISF personnel were deployed across all shifts to enhance security at the hospital and college complex. The move follows an earlier letter from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, addressing the need for heightened security due to rising protests after the tragic incident.
Deputy Inspector General of CISF, K Pratap Singh, confirmed the deployment, stating, “You can see we have already deployed. You will find us deployed on all the shifts.” He refrained from disclosing the exact number of personnel but assured that the CISF is fully committed to maintaining security.
The CISF’s involvement is seen as a crucial step in bolstering security during a time of heightened agitation in West Bengal, with the goal of mitigating potential threats and ensuring public peace.
