CJI Chandrachud Reprimands Lawyer for Using Phone Inside Courtroom

CJI Chandrachud

“Yeh kya market hai jo aap phone pe baat kar rahe hai?”(Is this a market you’re conducting a phone call in?), Chief Justice DY Chandrachud remarked on Monday, expressing strong disapproval of a lawyer using his mobile phone within the courtroom.

Sitting on the bench alongside Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, the CJI promptly directed the court staff to seize the lawyer’s mobile phone.

“Yeh kya market hai jo aap phone pe baat kar rahe hai? Inka mobile le lo” (Is this a market you’re conducting a phone call in? Confiscate his mobile), Justice Chandrachud reprimanded.

The lawyer’s phone call within the courtroom led to a halt in the proceedings, with the CJI directly addressing the individual.

The CJI issued a stern warning to the lawyer, saying, “Be careful in the future. Judges see everything. We may be looking at the papers, but we have eyes everywhere.”
