CJI Offers Relief for Lawyers Stuck in Traffic Due to Farmers Protest

Noting the extensive traffic congestion in the national capital region due to the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Tuesday stated that he would accommodate lawyers stuck in traffic.

“If anyone encounters issues due to the traffic situation, ‘we will adjust,'” stated a bench comprising the CJI along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra at the commencement of the day’s proceedings.

Farmers from Punjab commenced their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Tuesday morning to advocate for their demands, following an inconclusive meeting with two Union ministers concerning their demands, which include a legal guarantee for MSP for crops. The farmers intend to travel to Delhi from the Ambala-Shambhu, Khanauri-Jind, and the Dabwali borders.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced that over 200 farmer unions will converge on Delhi to urge the Centre to accept their demands. The proposed march by the farmers has prompted a significant deployment of police and paramilitary personnel, along with extensive barricading in Delhi to seal the national capital borders at Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur, aiming to prevent protesting farmers from entering the city.
