The Supreme Court today entrusted ex-supreme court judge Justice L Nageswara Rao to prepare a report by July 31st for finalizing constitution of All-India Football Federation (AIFF).
The bench comprising of CJI DY Chandrachud & Justice JB Pardiwala stated voluminous objections to the draft constitution by various stakeholders that can be taken care by Justice Rao after hearing the party’s concerns.
The court stated that “We are of the view that it will be appropriate to defer this exercise (of finalizing the constitution) since these are not issues of law but matters of policy dealing with running sport of football in India. Bearing in mind that the case of Indian Olympic Association was handled by Justice LN Rao, we entrust Justice Rao with the task of formulating the AIFF constitution. We request him to take the draft constitution prepared and finalise a report. In finalising the report Justice Rao is requested to hear all stakeholders.”
Further, it stated that the exercise considered for drafting the constitution and preparing a comprehensive report be completed by July 31.
On April 5, the apex court said that it’ll hear plea on May 2 related to AIFF issues, including that the objections raised to certain aspects of its draft constitution.
Therefore, the stakeholders include Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and also the sports bodies in the country.
